In 1868, English aristocrat George Joestar and his son Jonathan find themselves indebted to Dario Brando following a rescue from a carriage mishap. Unbeknownst to the Joestars, Dario's assistance was not altruistic; he believed them to be deceased and aimed to pillage their possessions. After Dario's demise 12 years later, George, seeking to settle his debt, adopts Dario's son, Dio.
Though Dio outwardly expresses admiration for his new father, he harbors a clandestine agenda to seize the Joestar fortune. His initial move involves sowing discord between George and Jonathan. By consistently outperforming his adopted brother, Dio firmly establishes his position within the Joestar family. However, their relationship takes a darker turn when Dio's machinations lead to a physical confrontation, resulting in Jonathan's victory.
Over the years, the two maintain a facade of amicable friendship, but tensions resurface when George falls ill. Jonathan becomes suspicious, suspecting Dio's involvement in the incident, and it becomes evident that Dio has more schemes at his disposal.
