The manga author, Eiichiro Oda, revealed in an interview with the Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper that his manga was 80% complete. However, this statement is relative, since 2 years ago, Oda announced that he had completed 65%, and 6 years ago, he stated that the story was 60% done.
In another interview, Oda stressed that the ending of One Piece will be as he decides, making it clear that under no circumstances will he be influenced by the publisher, who often pressures mangakas to extend the story due to commercial success.
Currently, the manga is in the 'Final Saga,' confirming that the story is coming to an end. However, this does not mean that it will end soon, as this saga can have several arcs and has just begun with the 'Egghead Arc.'
How long until One Piece manga ends?
As Eiichiro Oda stated back in 2019, he expects that the One Piece manga will reach its conclusion around the years 2024 or 2025. Oda expressed his intention to conclude the series in approximately five years, which would point to the aforementioned time period.
Furthermore, he revealed that the manga is expected to span just over 100 volumes, of which 106 volumes have currently been released. He also revealed that he had been contemplating the end of the manga since his college days.
Oda has a strong desire to delve into additional narratives centered on characters like Monkey D. Garp and Monkey D. Dragon, even though these characters play relatively minor roles in the series.
