Gen Kudou, a craftsman of the traditional Japanese instrument known as the koto, doubts that his rebellious grandson Chika could grasp the depth of its artistry. Seeking to reconcile with his grandfather's legacy and comprehend his teachings, Chika endeavors to join the Tokise High School Koto Club.
Despite the club's urgent need for members, its new president Takezou Kurata hesitates to accept Chika due to his troubled reputation. However, witnessing Chika's earnestness and passion, Takezou relents and permits the wayward youth to join, alongside the koto virtuoso Satowa Houzuki and three lively companions of Chika. "Kono Oto Tomare!" chronicles the journey of this cheerful ensemble of musicians as they strive to compete on a national stage.
