Hunters possess expertise across a diverse array of fields, spanning from treasure hunting to culinary arts. They enjoy access to resources and information that are otherwise inaccessible, enabling them to pursue their aspirations and interests. However, becoming a Hunter is a rare privilege, achievable only through successfully passing a deadly examination with an exceedingly low success rate.

Gon Freecss, a 12-year-old boy driven by the desire to locate his absent father, ventures on a journey to undertake the Hunter Exam. Along his path, he gathers three companions who share his ambition of challenging the perilous test: Kurapika, seeking vengeance; Leorio Paladiknight, aspiring to become a doctor; and Killua Zoldyck, a mischievous peer of Gon's age.

As these four hopeful hunters embark on their hazardous quest, they confront challenges and defy the daunting odds in pursuit of their dreams.
