Twelve-year-old prodigy Rafal believes in leading a rational life, seeking praise and respect from society while avoiding emotional distractions. To align with this goal, he publicly declares his intention to study theology, the most esteemed field in 15th-century Poland. However, a fateful encounter with a mysterious figure ignites an irrational longing to follow his true passion: astronomy.
Rafal becomes determined to demonstrate the elegance and logic of heliocentrism—the idea that the Earth orbits the Sun. This theory, however, is deemed heretical by the powerful Church, which upholds geocentrism—the belief that the Sun revolves around the Earth—as the unquestionable truth. Those who defy the Church's doctrine face unspeakably harsh punishments.
As Rafal strives to validate the heliocentric model, he must tackle the challenges of achieving accurate calculations and constructing sound empirical theories. Yet, his greatest obstacle is conducting this research in secrecy—lest he risk the same horrific fate as other accused heretics.
